The Yagers have been hooked on a few shows this summer.
We purchased The Big Bang Theory, Seasons 1-4 and have thoroughly enjoyed watching the show. It is so funny, there should be a warning label that you shouldn't drink a glass of milk while watching it, you should wear waterproof mascara, and make sure you evacuate your bladder before sitting down to watch it. The premise is about four nerds (hence the blog post's title): Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, and Raj. Leonard and Sheldon are physicists as well as roommates, who live across the hall from a beautiful, but not so bright girl named Penny. Leonard is in love with Penny, much to Sheldon's irritation because he's virtually asexual and more robotic than human. Raj and Howard are fellow scientists who have their own set of issues. Howard is obsessed with women, oftentimes crossing the line with what's appropriate in a social setting. Raj is from India, loves women as well, but has the literal inability to speak to them -- any of them -- unless he's had an alcoholic beverage to loosen him up.
One of our favorite scenes is when Sheldon is hung up on a physics problem that he just cannot solve, but refuses to sleep until he does. After a day or two of no sleep, he begins to become even more unhinged.
Another show we've been watching is new for us, but has been around for a while: America's Got Talent. They are currently in season 7, but this is the first season we've ever watched. This is also the first season for their new judge, Howard Stern. I know what you might be thinking...Howard Stern? The despicable, crude, foul man with the radio/tv show? That was my first thought too. I don't know if Howard is having to really tame it down or not, but on this show, he's quite likeable. He definitely grows on you, and makes you think that perhaps that despicable side of him is just because it made him famous and gets ratings for his radio show. Not that he's my new BFF, but the show is very entertaining with him, as well as Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel, as judges. Nick Cannon is the host, and he's very likeable as well.
One of our favorite scenes from this season was during one of the many audition episodes where a young boy came out to sing a song as his talent.
The last show I'll share with you is a favorite summertime show of ours: Masterchef. It's a reality show (like America's Got Talent), where amateur home cooks battle to be crowned the next Masterchef (win $250,000 and a career as a chef). The chef judges are Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Graham Elliot. It's fun because first they have auditions to determine who gets to be in the top 36, then half are eliminated after a challenge to see who becomes the top 18. After that, through a series of team and individual challenges, the judges eliminate at least one contestant each episode until there is only one winner. At this point, there are 8 contestants remaining.
I think our favorite contestant that we're rooting for is named Christine Ha. And no, it's not just because she shares my name. It's not because she's from Texas. It's because...she's blind. Literally. Her story is just so incredible, we tear up every time she overcomes obstacles in the challenges and dazzles the judges with her talented cooking abilities. She is humble, kind, and has a beautiful heart. Here's a clip where the top 16 contestants had to bake an apple pie and Christine's is being judged.
