Working man

What's new with the Yager Family you ask? Well if you didn't know, over the past four months or so I have been unemployed which has basically meant that I wake up past noon most mornings, microwave myself some corn dogs, and then go upstairs to watch one of several "manly" movies that I almost know by heart (e.g. Rambo, Terminator, The Dark Knight, Predator...). It was a great routine for about 2-3 weeks, but something happens after that point where you actually begin to yearn to do work (I know it's lame).

God must have known that my cholesterol couldn't handle many more corndogs because on March 2nd, 2010 I was told that TTI wanted to hire me ASAP (woohoo!). More on that later.

Let's wind the clocks back a little bit.

Now for those who don't know, two things were happening right around graduation time for us. I was finalizing on a nice job offer in San Antonio and Christine was offered an amazing job change/promotion here in town. After praying about it and discussing it we decided that Christine would take the job offer and I would look for work here. Well luckily for us (God knew all along) my job offer fell through and I was on sugar-momma support until I could pull something together. For several reasons, our first choice was for me to get a job at TTI. After meeting with several different managers, I finally found a department that I genuinely liked and they wanted to hire me on...the only problem was that they had no money to hire a new person for atleast the next year.

So now I'm faced with the dilemma of waiting for a great potential job at TTI or looking for less interesting work in town or out of town. As for most men, I didn't like the feeling of being unemployed since I have a natural desire to provide for my family, but this time was very valuable for growing my faith and dependance on God. We were studying the first chapter of James in our couples BS at the time, and I couldn't believe how relevant and applicable it was to me. Especially

"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing" - James 1:2-4

"Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, 'I am being tempted by God'; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust." - James 1:12-14

The study helped me put trials into perspective. I learned that I should be joyful during trials because my endurance through them causes me to be more mature as a believer...and more specifically I learned that I should not feel respected (or prideful) by how much I make or by how much my coworkers respect me, but that I should work everyday for God and humbly accept each gift He has given me: be it an opportunity to grow through tough times or another day on earth with my beautiful bride.

Now back to the present, it took from March 2nd until April 1st to get me onboard, but fortunately for me the job was not an April fool's joke! Now if you haven't started working yet there is one truth about full-time work that you need to understand...Don't expect to do any real work for the first week (maybe even month). So in honor of this immutable truth, here are some pictures of what I did my first day on the job.

In case you've ever wondered what the end of Excel looks like

I tried sweeping those mines and failed, but I'm good at Solitaire...

And finally here is my new office!

Congrats on the Job!!!

By the way, there is no apology needed. yes... it did suck to get the confusing email, but its cool. As soon as I left I was over it. But thank you for the courtesy call, it was very sweet. Let your wifie know that there's absolutely no hard feelings.

Getting together for dinner sound great! Talk to Christine about maybe sometime next week or the week after that. I will talk to Jake some more.

Great job--on the total fail. You were working in Excel 2007, and yet you were not in column XFD or row 1048576. Next time, do some real work and take it out of compatibility mode. You're fired.

So excited for you two. It sounds like things are working out, funny how good God is at that... :) I remember every time I lost a job in college or an interview didn't go well, that about two months later something 10 times better came down the pipe. I may just have to swing by during my next trip to Houston. Love you guys!
