This weekend we traveled to Fredericksburg, TX to celebrate our 4th anniversary, stay at a B&B cabin, and so Michael could compete in his second arm wrestling tournament in Boerne, TX.
We arrived in Fredericksburg early Friday afternoon and checked into our cabin. The cabin was very spacious for the two of us with our dogs. It had a fully stocked kitchen, fridge, and dining table in addition to a small living area, bed, and bathroom. The bed was so pretty with the canopy decorations and white Christmas lights wrapped around it. It made us think that perhaps we want to buy a king-size canopy bed frame! It would have to be something more modern though to match my taste in furniture. The bathroom was tiny, but it had a "bubble tub" that was pretty much like a jetted tub. It was very relaxing after traveling so much. The cabin was located on someone's ranch, so it was very secluded and gave the dogs lots of space to run around. We took a couple long walks with the dogs to explore the area. The funny thing was that the dogs met cows for the first time. The cows were kept in a pasture with a wire fence (not barbed wire), so the dogs could easily slip underneath the lowest wire and run into their pasture. Fortunately, the cows were being cows, acting very mellow while our dogs investigated these strange creatures.
Friday evening we traveled to Boerne (about 45 minutes from Fredericksburg) so Michael could weigh in and register for the Texas State Arm Wrestling Championship. Then we traveled back to Fredericksburg and got some ice cream and walked around the town for a bit.
On Saturday morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast that the owners had left in the cabin for us and took a long walk with the dogs. Then we drove into town and stopped at the Fredericksburg Pie Company. There were so many choices! Michael chose a local favorite, Pecan Praline, and I chose a traditional slice of Cherry pie (my favorite). Then we traveled to Boerne for Michael's tournament. He placed 2nd for all three classes he entered:
1) Men's Novice Left, 166-198 lbs.
2) Men's Novice Right, 155-176 lbs.
3) Men's Open Right, 155-176 lbs.
I was very proud of how well he did! He was up against some pretty experienced arm wrestlers and more than held up his own!
After the tournament, we traveled back to Fredericksburg to eat dinner at a Mexican place called Hondo's. We ate the Fajita Ladas, which was a stacked enchilada with fajita meat on top. The portion was much smaller than we were expecting for the price, especially since we were splitting that meal, but it was tasty.
Sunday morning before leaving for home, we bought some fudge at the Lone Star Candy Store. They had dozens of types of fudge to choose from. We selected six pieces: Peanut Butter Explosion, Reese's PB Cups, Tiger Butter, Dark Chocolate with Pecans, Snickers, and Twix. I'm not ashamed to admit that only one piece is left as of Wednesday...
It was fun to cheer Michael on again, and make a fun vacation out of the weekend!
