The Gingey Mystery Is Solved!

We received the results of the Wisdom Panel that tested Ginger's DNA from a blood sample and the results were somewhat surprising, but make sense too. According to the results, Ginger is at least 50% Rottweiler, and at least 12.5% collie. There was also a possible, but less reliable result of 12.5% Samoyed, which doesn't make sense at all.

So here is our explanation of how the Rottweiler/Collie mix makes some sense. She clearly has the coloring of a Rottweiler (see below), but Rottweilers weigh 85-115 lbs and have a "boxier" look than Ginger. Also, Ginger has a bit of a white chest.

So now enter the collie. Since she is more Rottweiler than Collie, it makes sense that Ginger looks closer to a Rottweiler than a Collie, but still, some traits of the Collie may have been dominant and carried through to Ginger. For instance, Ginger's nose is a bit longer and more narrow than a Rottweiler's, but less than a Collie's, so that could be the result of the two breeds mixing. This mixing could also explain why Ginger has some white hair on her chest. Furthermore, Ginger weighs about 52 pounds - and Collies weigh approximately 50 pounds. Also, Ginger's ears are a bit "wilder" than a Rottweiler - see the Collie's ears in the picture below - they just have a mind of their own and don't really lay flat or stand up, which is what Ginger's ears do. Ginger also exhibits herding behavior with the cats and with us humans - she likes to race around and nip at our heels, which is a behavioral trait of the Collie. Collies are also very energetic (those of you who have met Ginger know that she also has this quality.)

So there you have it, we solved the case of our own little mystery dog. Mixing the energy and intelligence of the Collie with the stubbornness and strength of the Rottweiler leaves us with a handful of a dog!

Lastly, I Googled "Rottweiler-Collie mix" and got this picture...I think it looks like Ginger somewhat, with the color a bit lighter. This dog looks like it has a higher ratio of Collie than Ginger does though.
