My work situation has never been as bad as what is depicted in Office Space or even "The Office", but for awhile now I have been sharing my office with a grad student. Though it's nothing against her personally (she's really fun to talk to and has some pretty hilarious stories she has shared), I am the type of person that needs some space to myself to be able to recharge. See, I started working here as an undergraduate student worker, then moved up as a graduate student worker, and am now a full-time employee. Though I still feel like I'm not treated with the same level of respect as everyone else in our department (hired directly as full-time), the thing that has been taking its toll on me the most was not having a space to myself. Because I'm now at work 8 hours every day, I really started to feel the effects of missing out on my "own space". After talking to my boss about this, I am happy to report that once my current office-mate leaves TTI at the end of this month, I will be able to have the whole office to myself! I also hope to be able to request that the two floor to ceiling bookshelves in my office (full of my boss's old boxes and other data) be stored someplace else. One step at a time, right?
On Tuesday, our friends Jonathan and Anna were so kind to bring us a cooked dinner for us to enjoy alone to celebrate our two-year anniversary (it's on the 19th). It was such a thoughtful gift, that it inspires me to do the same for other couples I know and will meet in the future. And it was all so delicious!
Yesterday was Michael's 23rd birthday! We celebrated by getting some Freebirds burritos for dinner, watching Man vs. Wild episodes, and playing N64 Mario Kart (he totally whooped me!). I'm so thankful to have him as my husband!
Tonight Michael and his team will hopefully fly their plane for family and friends. So far out of the three teams, his team is still the only one that has actually flown, meaning that come Saturday if that doesn't change, they should win the Lowy award, which is the declared "winner" of the senior design course. I hope they win!!
