Texas State Fair

Michael and I had the privilege of going to the Texas State Fair with our good friends Jonathan & Anna. We left C.S. Thursday evening and stayed the night at Anna's parents' house SW of Forth Worth. It was so fun because her parents live in a restored Victorian house, so it felt like a relaxing stay at a B&B. It rained Friday morning, but luckily stopped by the time we arrived at the fair. Only problem was that it was COLD! And I had forgotten to pack us jackets. Thanks to Anna's dad for letting us borrow two of his, we were okay.

Here are some pictures and stories of the eventful weekend...

Not much to tell here...just a sign inside one of the exhibits.

This was the car ride Thursday evening to Anna's parents' house. And that's Michael with a cheeto puff in his mouth...lol

This was a "Green Goblin" and was pretty good (see the description on the sign). We also ate: fried butter, fried peaches & cream, a corn dog, nachos, a funnel cake (my fav), and a pickle

This was one of the four shows we attended. It was a Dog Jumping Show. They also had two dogs run and do a long jump to catch a frisbee and then land in water. It was really fun to watch. We also saw the Birds of the World show, the Spirit of the Horse (sudo-lame), and the Lotto Show. They were all really fun!

We visited the Petting Zoo that featured all kinds of farm and more exotic animals. This was a ram (I think?), but notice that it has four horns. Some of these rams had their bottom horns growing in the direction of their face, so the owners had to saw them shorter! What happens to them in the wild?? My animal loving brain doesn't want to think about that any more...

These were cute baby pigs. A few seconds after this picture was taken, they all got up and started running around and play fighting...it was so cute! The petting zoo also had an ostrich that actually ate two of the plastic feeding cups that they sell to kids with food in them...ate the food and the cup whole! That can't be good for their digestion!

This was inside one of the exhibits - it's a refrigerated room where an artist creating a scene completely out of butter! Very creative.

This was the robot at the Auto Show for Ford. Anna & Jonathan said last year's robot was so much better because it acted like it didn't know things (like what is a Starbucks?). But this year it was just some guy trying to make it sound "hip" and overly-advertised Ford cars and promotions. I hope they make next year's better.

This was inside the Auto Show buildings, in the Jeep section I think. They had a rock climbing wall that was set up for kids, but my husband is a kid at heart and decided to try the Advanced side of the wall. He did really great and almost made it to the top, but couldn't get past the outward protruding section of the wall near the top. We need Bear Grylls climbing lessons!

On Friday night we went from the fair to Aaron & Melissa's house to stay the night. On Saturday they had a baby shower BBQ party, and above was the cake. If you look closely, you can see a tiny baby foot sticking out of the belly on the right-bottom side, just under the exclamation mark. It was great to see old friends again and celebrate the coming birth of their son!
