Busy Bees!

The first thing I have to say is...Phew!! This weekend was super busy for us. On Friday, I went to the store, did house chores, attempted to make Cinnamon Amish Bread from the bag Anna gave me (hmm, I'll share the side story about this in a sec...), brought Michael dinner up to school, went to bed, woke up and picked Michael up from school at 1:30AM, then went back to bed until 4:50AM which began Saturday...

So on Saturday, we woke up at 4:50AM and then headed out to Riverside campus (an old Air Force base) to be there at 6:00AM. I had planned on having lots of time to kill so I was prepared with chairs to sit in, an umbrella for shade, books to read, and a puzzle to do. Michael and his team members finished working on their plane (it's a model plane that has about a six-foot wing span) from about 7:00AM-9:00AM. Then all three teams headed out to the runway to flight test their planes. We (family and friends) had to stay behind at the hanger because according to the prof, it is against the law for guests to see the first test flight (personally, I think it's a bunch of bull hockey). Michael's mom kept me company when she arrived at the hanger at 8:30AM, and our friends Jonathan and Anna came out too around 9:45AM. Out of the three teams, Michael's team was the only one whose plane actually flew! He was so excited! But the remote controller person landed the plane a little too hard, which broke some things in the nose section, so their team came back to the hanger and repaired it until about 2:00PM. Then we all headed back to the runway (this time, we could go too!) to hopefully see it fly again, but there was a problem with the controls, so they couldn't fly again that day. Hopefully they will fix the problem so we can see it fly this Saturday. Anyways, we left Riverside close to 4:00PM I think (we were so tired by this point, I really don't remember the time). We finally ate a meal, and then took a 2.5 hour nap, then went to Michael's AERO friends' house for a dinner party. We came home again around 1:00AM and finally went to bed for good!

Then on Sunday, we realized that we had lunch plans not only with our families for Mother's Day, but it was also our Sunday School's potluck lunch day celebrating graduations! Needless to say, we were very full!! After lunch with our family, we all went to my parent's old house that is being remodeled and toured through it. It looks really different than how it looked growing up there - it's kind of strange to see it so different. But it looks really good, in fact I wish it looked like that when I actually lived there! Then we went home for the day, where Michael studied like mad, and I took care of household chores and finally got a chance to relax before work started up again today.

Michael has two final exams today and is running on an hour and a half of sleep, so please pray that his grades will turn out well! Thank you!!

Ok, so about the bread...Anna gave me a ziplock bag with one cup of batter in it that is supposed to stay out at room temperature for 10 days until you bake it. On a couple of the days in between, you add more milk, sugar, and flour to it, so the quantity keeps increasing. Then on day 10 you take out 4 cups total of the batter to give away to 4 friends, and then add more ingredients to what is leftover and then bake it. So after I took out the 4 cups, I notice that the first thing it says is "In a non-metal bowl..." and I look down at the metal bowl that I already poured the baggie out into. Oops, first mistake. So I pour it all into a plastic bowl (I'd like to know why I can't use metal...anyone know why?) and continue adding the ingredients on the instruction sheet. Well, I finish mixing and the quantity of dough is quite large, and I realize that I only have one loaf pan....so I just decide to put it all in a 9x13 pan because that's all I had that would fit it. Oh well...Then I bake it for the length of time it says, and the toothpick came out clean, so I assumed it was done, but it looked really weird, like it didn't rise hardly at all. It has the consistency of cheesecake. I wondered how I could mess it up so badly, and tell Anna about it the next day over many laughs, when she realizes that she had a couple typos on the instruction sheet for ingredients...she left off 2 cups of flour to be added (hence why it never rose much and why it was so mushy) and to add only 1/2 cup of milk instead of 2 cups of milk like what was on the sheet I had (hence the extra mushiness!). Anyways, it makes for a funny story, but not so yummy "bread"...
